Is there a software guru out there that can determine if the W8 Passat key module can be programmed to act like the new Phaeton's? The Phaeton will unlock all the doors, including rear hatches, position the seats and mirrors anytime a person with the key fob approaches the car. One doesn't have to go through the routine of putting down all of their packages to reach in their purse/pocket to find the fob and press the correct indentation to access the door or the hatch. The logic here is that if the person has the fob, he must be the owner, so why not open all the accesses? This will also eliminate the present design of the rear hatch autolocking everytime that you close it.

I think there is a lot more to it than just software. What you are talking about is basically the Keyless Go system such as on Lexus and the new Toyota Prius. Both of those cars have a small touch sensor on the door handle so that if the key is within range and the door handle is touched, you can open the door. It doesn't just unlock all of the doors because the key is in range, the door has to actually be touched.

And if you make it so that the key just unlocks all the doors when you get in a certain range, how would you lock the doors? You would have to make sure you are out of range before you could hit the lock button. Otherwise, you would automatically unlock the doors right after you locked them. :p

Remote key function protection

FMyPassat,
Appreciate your reply and info. I might add that the W8 will automatically lock the doors 30 seconds after an unlock signal if the door is not opened. This feature was included to prevent one from unintentionally pressing the upon button ( fob in purse/pocket) while in range and walking off leaving the vehicle unlocked. :eek:h:

Yeah. All B5's and B5.5s lock the doors after 30 seconds if the door is not opened after hitting the unlock button. I believe the W8 is exactly the same as other Passats, as far as the key fob is concerned.
