Hi, I have a 2000 Passat and the drivers window worked, until last night. It went down OK, but won't go up. All others are OK. Drivers won't go with switch or key. I hear a clicking in the door area, so I think the switch is OK. Any ideas? Do motors go bad that fast, no warning? How hard a fix is this?Any one have a diagram on how to remove the inner door panel? It's 20 below zero here in Wisconsin and I don't have aheated garage, so I may have to have this done for me. Any idea how expensive? Thanks, Perry

The clips that hold the window clamps to the lift cable broke. It's fairly common. Do you think you'll be able to buy a $5 clip? Nope, you need an entire regulator a$$embly. It's basically that metal plate that covers the entire inside of the door. Go OEM on this. There are some pretty poor aftermarket copies out there. It's not too bad a job, but you should pick up a set of XZN 12 point bits before doing it.

Here's a tip to get the window up. Take a long piece of clear packing tape and fold it sticky side out over a thin metal ruler. Push it into the door until the tape contacts at least an inch of the glass. Use the tape to pull the window up. Once it's up tape over the door frame to hold it. Two or three strips should keep it there until you get the regulator.

Thanks for the links and info. Even though my motor doesn't sound as though it's working, could it be these clips? Maybe a loose connection? Also noticed that my trunk switch doesn't work. Has done it once before. It opens with the key and the fob. On the window, could it be the motor is burned out? Or maybe the cold has an effect on it. It's below zero up here. Any other help will be great. I'd like to fix it myself if I can. Perry

Well it got up to 27 today and I left my Passat out in the sun for a bit at lunch. Went out and it went right up. Must not like the cold. Must have had some moisture or something that caused a freexze up somwhere. Well... it works. Perry

I think it is someone's way of telling you not to use drivethroughs...

Check for water ingress under drivers side carpet.
Common problem with the Passat. Water gets inside car and fills up the footwell on drivers side and passengers side.
The carpet has a sound deadener and fireproof layer that is very thick and acts like a sponge.
It can literally holds quarts of water without you even knowing.

Under the carpet just forward of the front seats:
Drivers side, the CCM (module that controls everything you mentioned)
Passengers side, TCM (module for automatic transmission - if equipped)

To get the window up take off your door panel, take off your window motor and on the back side you will find a plastic gear on the back side of window motor take that off and put in place on the door panel and start turning it manually by hand until your window is up. Then just reinstall window motor and door panel just make sure you don't roll down window again

Fast forward to 2022, and plastic $5 replacement clips are readily available. Been there ... done that, passenger side front.
