Also, if you are going to race for money, don't just do it on a street were people can cheat and you can run over somebodies cat. Go to a 1/8th mile (or 1/4 mile) drag strip and do it best timeslip outta 3 runs. That way you can redlight twice, or multch your clutch or whatever. Also, you may have more of an advantage on him in the 1/4 mile (over 1/8th mile), since you probably have a better power to weight but he could have more grip (is that cougar rwd?). Either way, good luck and don't shift till the needle reads 7000!!

A 140-horsepower, 3.8-liter V6 and 4-speed overdrive automatic came standard in the base LS. For the premium XR7, Mercury added a supercharged and intercooled version of the overhead-valve V6, which delivers 210 horsepower and 315 pound-feet of torque.
The V6 provides adequate acceleration, but we really do prefer the optional V8. If possible, find a 1994 model with the new 4.6-liter unit. While it doesn't get appreciably better gas mileage, it's smoother, quieter, and feels more potent than the old 5.0-liter. Expect 0-60 times of about 8.8 seconds, which is almost two seconds faster than with the V6. The automatic seems sluggish and reluctant when asked to downshift and pass. While we endorse the optional antilock brakes, the traction control we tried did not perform well.

Ok . the guy wanted to do it anyway ( NO MONEY JUST LUNCH FOR A WEEK) yesterday so we raced on a private road by my workplace.
the first 2 seconds while i was in first gear he was keeping up with me . as soon as i put second gear in. in jumped in front of him and dusted him so bad .
I think i put a good 5 cars between me and him in a 1/8 mile distance, the good thing is we are still laughing at him cause everybody here at work saw the thing.....
He now wants to get his car supercharged so he can beat me.
