I have 99 passat v6 GLX, last week the car started going from the 3rd gear right away and the chek engine light came on. the code is p1818(solenoid 2 electrical). Is any one else experienced the same problem. If yes what needs to be replaced and how much will it cost. thanx

Welcome to PW! :)

From the PW DTC lookup table...
18226 P1818 Pressure Contr.Solenoid 2 Electrical
18227 P1819 Pressure Contr.Solenoid 2 Open/Short to Ground
18228 P1820 Pressure Contr.Solenoid 2 Short to B+
Interestingly, my bentley doesn't have a writeup for P1818, but it does have P1819 & P1820.

My *guess* is that one of teh solenoids in the transmission has failed, or is shorted out. In that case, the fix could be as simple as dropping the trans. pan & installing a new solenoid -- probably less than $250 for the parts (including 8L of new ATF and a new solenoid), & you would also get the "opportunity" to do a transmission flush.

Take a look at this and see if you think you could DIY the transmission pan removal (you probably can):

Do you have a vag-com, or was the p1818 from a generic "autozone" scan?

If you have the vag-com, the Bentley suggests a somewhat-lengthy diagnostic procedure... I'll take you through it step-by-step if you want to try.
