Can't find the references to the tool that allows oil changes from the top - through the oil dip stick.

Could someone please post the source for this device?

Any extractor will work on both motors but the reason its only recommended for the 1.8T is because you still have to get under the car to remove the filter on the V6 so you might as well drain from there too.
