Does anyone know how much power drains the OEM VW CD Changer?

what do you mean? The changer doesn't draw any power when it's off.

I mean when it works (peak power consumed).
I want to use that 12V line on the cable that goes to the trunk for the CD changer to attach an alternative sound source (a HDD based MP3 player in my case). I need about 0.7A or to be safe - let's say 1A.
So I am wondering does the CD changer plug provide such power.

The cabling for the changer will easily handle a 1A draw.
