I have seen numerous threads on this issue so I apologize if this is redundant!
2000 passat replaced the window regulator on driver door. it works great with the key, all windows and locks work
but the starter is now locked out, the windows, sunroof and trunk do not work at the door switches. http://www.passatworld.com/smilies/banghead.gif

So, It appears to be a CCM wiring related issue. I pulled the CCM and all the wires look like new. My guess is that in replacing the window reg, I damaged a wire. My question, am I on the right track? My reasoning is that I have to completely open up the harness to find the bad connection and that it is somewhere from the door to the CCM. Just want to verify that im on the right track as wringing out 50 tiny wires is going to be quite a task.

Anyone with a good suggestion will get Karma points, thanks for your patience http://www.passatworld.com/smilies/confusedd.gif

First check fuse 14 (with a meter). It has to be good to power the CCM.

Since you only worked on the driver door, the issue (if more than a blown fuse) is probably there.

If the problem persists, or if a new fuse 14 blows immediately, I'd unplug the connector to the drivers door to isolate it and narrow down the location of the problem. The connector is beside the driver's left foot, behind a plastic panel. (There are two for the door, one for speakers, one for everything else.)

The harness under the floor is a problem on some Passats, but not others (unless it's been wet, then all bets are off). I've never had my carpet up in 15 years. If yours worked fine before the door repair, the harness is probably still ok.

thanks! I was hoping to find corrosion, but the wires under the carpet are pristine. There are several connectors under the kick panel, any suggestions on which one to pull? also, can I jumper the starter lockout until I get this resolved? I think there is a bit of the door panel tugging on the wires when it is taken off, I suspect I created an intermittent, so that seems like the most logical cause.

I did have a 2000 Jetta for years and sold it to someone, its still ticking. It did have some bugs, but once I got them addressed it was a great car. I know several mechanics that wont touch these VW's due to electrical issues that are just too time consuming.

There is a relay you should be able to jumper and start the car, but I don't recall which one it is.

If the car is a stick shift, try push starting it to make sure it will run.

Black 10-position connector, top left. The bottom center gray connector also goes to the door, but it's only the speakers.

The alarm system relay is Number 186, position 12 on the 13-position aux relay panel, which is bottom row, second from right. The brown/lilac wire on pin 6/85 of the relay comes from the CCM, 15-pin connector position 3. The CCM has to apply +12 volts to that wire to energize the relay to allow the starter to engage.

Check fuse #6, also.

I had similar symptoms, and it turned out that my aftermarket mirror switch was causing this 5A fuse to blow. A used OEM switch does not cause this problem.
