New suspension, same height

I was wondering if anyone knows a good brand of shocks/struts to get for not a lot of money. I want to retain the stock height as I already have a lowered car and don't like driving it in the snow. Also anyone know where to get the rear sway bar kit? I added one to my focus and it was night and day difference. Thanks

I added Koni yellows to stock springs and it was night and day. Very composed on rough surfaces and holds the road irregularites with ease. I was lowered on Neuspeed springs but went back up on stock springs and kept the shocks on there. Another good one is Bilstein HD.
shocks don't affect height.

I don't know about that, I know a certain member who shall remain nameless who has OEM springs with aftermarket shocks and their Passat is has a higher height than stock.
When looking at an issue like that, you should look at the relationship between the threaded portion of the strut rod and the spring seat. It's common for Koni and Bilstein to offer some height adjustment by offering an adjustable spring seat. If on a replacement strut, the relationship as stated above has changed, there could be a change in ride height. From my experience, I've never seen an OTS strut valved stiff enough to raise the car. At rest, the rebound force would have to be greater than the downward force of the weight of the car.

They might have the wrong shock then. If that shock is made for that vehicle application, the perch should be in the same spot as the OE one.
always buy 1.8 shocks and springs when you have a V6...more lower!!!! :p

Some people just aren't like us...it's a shame and unfortunate, but w/e. ;)

More lower huh? Well i have a 1.8t so i can't go "more lower" and don't want to i want the same ride height. I'm thinking about changing the springs out too because the car has 210,000 on it so i figured it can't hurt nothing to change it all out while i'm at it.

How lazy can you get? Just clip the springs down. Take it down one coil, tight. Take it down two coils, hott. Three coils, teh secks. :D

Let me tell you about ability to go low....I have KW V1's for the 1.8t sedan on my V6 sedan with the rear springs cut to about 2/3 height...I can rub frame front to rear no problem. I don't, but I could.
Why not just get a set of Koni FSD's? Keep the stock springs or if they have high miles on them replace them with stock, or 1BE's for a slight lowering. 1BE's are used on European Passats and they have plenty of snow. That's what I would do, and may do some day. Koni FSD's (which I already have) with the slightly lower 1BE springs.

Couple that with some fresh spring seats, bushings, control arms, with some 16" alloy wheels and nice beefy ultra-high performance all-season tires, a rear sway bar, and you'll have a comfy, sure footed, and very capable car!

I'm on Eibach springs with the 1.8t and the back is lower than the front. I'd like to raise the rear just a little, maybe a 1/4 to a 1/3rd of an inch. Do you think V6 springs in the rear only will do this for me? Are they stiffer in the back too?

Has anyone tried this?
I have 1BE shocks and struts and the height is maybe 1/4" lower. The handling and dive improvement is very good. As was said you could go 1BE struts and aftermarket shocks.
Where could i get the 1BE?

I knew you had the 1.8 coils but you cut your rear springs?? Had not clue...I should do that to my vmaxx's. They are crap for going low in the rear. I just have the spring in there and it's still not low enough.

1BE is a VW suspension name for the European spec suspension. 1BA is the name for what we got here in the US. The struts and springs are available from VW here even though they aren't sold on Passats here. I ordered mine from a dealer and had an independent put them on one week after I got my 03 GLS. I just could not take the stock BA nose dive and body lean but, like you, really didn't want a lower car. I have 17s for summer and it doesn't look bad with the slight lowering. (I am sure others here would not agree. :)) I went from buyers remorse to loving my Passat when I changed out the suspension and put on the 225/45s.

Aftermarket might get you the same goals at a cheaper price but I don't know what that combo would be.

I think they will help...you can always try it. I like going low and I don't even think about going higher. haha
Yeah I don't hit gas tank...but usually hit exhaust in the back...oh well. I can't see how people like high cars...I can't stand it!!
