I just bought a used 2002 Passat with 117000 km on it a couple weeks ago as my first car. An inspection was done and numerous things were fixed including spark plugs, valve cover gasket, control arm, new coolant and an oil change (snythetic). The clutch and timing belt were done at around 90000.

Everything on the car seemed great and then the check engine light came on. I brought it to my local mechanic and he told me it had irregular idling just because i stalled it (new manual driver). The problem did not go away however and the car has begun to idle even more rough and the engine seems to "jump" when I am shifting down. The car also seems to be less fuel efficient than expected and runs at a little over 3000 rpm at 120 km/h (75 m/h) (dunno if normal?). Because of this I was thinking maybe it was an 02 sensor? (this is only from what i read on the web, I am not the most car savvy). I am unable to get to a mechanic until next weekend so I was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas?

I Appreciate any help!!

Do you have the code from the CEL? Motor and snub mount should be checked if the motor is moving too much when shifting. The RPM at 75 is fine and the car should get at least 30mpg on the highway. Once the code is posted, we might be able to help more.
