I have the 2005 GLX 4Motion wagon assembled Nov. 23, 2005 so maybe this is a B5.5 (or 6) version and I don't have the correct wiring diagrams for the ABS. I have the erWIN manuals plus Haynes and yes, the Bentley is already ordered. My ABS seems to be the Bosch 5.7 because none of the terminals and wire colors match my diagrams, however, I saw a Russian version that seemed to match the pin terminals and wire colors, but unable to translate the Russian for the corresponding devices.

I have fault codes 290 (Left Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G46) Open/Short to B+) and code 1435 (Brake Pressure Sensor 1 G201 - Voltage Supply).

I want to chase and verify all the wires before bailing out the dough on the module.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Before you do bail out any dough,
Do you have the oil light, flashing ABS light and tachometer sitting at zero while the car is running?

The rear wheel speed sensor maybe bad itself, or the wire going to it, or even built up with rust and or corrosion.

I personally would not buy anything from Russia. Trouble shoot this stuff first and then I would look at some of the online places that have the exact rebuilt ABS modules on hand for your car.
They are way cheaper than getting aftermarket. Rebuilt modules are only around $60 and they are reliable.

Ok I was a bit off on the $60. More like $120.

Thanks for the help! I'll check out those sites. I was close to finding the pin-outs on the Audi forums for the Bosch 5.7, but they don't match my colors either for the wheel speed sensors, just the primary power and grounds to the ABS.

To your first question, I don't have those issues, just solid ABS light. The Russia diagram was not a purchase, but just a link from their Passat forum.

I'm an idiot, I forgot to mention, if you disconnect the ABS module and the ABS light on the dash goes away, you can rest assured that the module is faulty and a replacement is necessary.

That's a great link and tip on narrowing down my issue. I'm going to pull off my module and get the numbers to verify what I'm dealing with. My 42-pin wire feed heads in from the opposite direction (fan-side) from all the others I see on line, plus I have the brake pressure sensor ported on the engine side of the hydraulic unit with absolutely NO slack in either set of wires.

No worries. All is normal with the car running except the solid ABS light. I received the Bentley manual this weekend and that wiring diagram is close but still doesn't match my colors to the pins on the module plug. The only parts that match are the power and ground wires. I have a weird feeling even though my VIN says I have a B5, I probably have a B6 or some variation between them have a Nov. 2005 production date. Now I'm struggling getting the top half of the washer fluid tank removed to have better access to the ABS torx screws.

If your taillights look like the picture on Bentley page 31, then you should have a B5.5. The B6 are rather different.

And to confirm: you are looking at Bentley schematic 75, right? Note the * and ** on sheet 75/4 that apply to 4Motion and ATQ (V6 engine) respectively.

Yes, my tail lights confirm on Pg. 31. Also, yes, I've studied those asterisks on diagram 75/4 and only some match. Sorry I couldn't get the table function to make this more clear, but here's what I'm seeing:

Pin Wiring Dia. Mine

29 sw (black) sw (black) match
14 ws (white) br (brown)
13 ws (white) ws (white) match
12 gn (green) sw (black)
16 sw (black) sw (black) match
15 ge (yellow) ge (yellow) match
31 br (brown) sw (black)
14 ws (white) br (brown)

Those are for the wheel speed sensors from dia. 75/4 and all the power feeds match pin and color from dia. 75/3. Maybe I'm screwing up somehow but I've studied this a crazy long time.

Tonight I muscled off the ABS with pump to separate and send the module out for re-build. I tried to keep the hydraulic unit on, but couldn't get that last lower right torx screw out. No biggie, I'll just bleed it all later. This wagon is at 150k miles and the original owner said the timing belt has never been changed so I'm taking the front clip off to tackle the belt, water pump and front seals while the ABS gets fixed.

On my (now deceased) Fresco Green Passat, a hole was drilled through the wheel well to access that last Torx screw. There may be some other extremely clever way to do it, perhaps involving a heavy duty flex driver...

Im going through similar situation with an 03 V6. Have LF code that I have tried everything to figure it out with no luck. But when checking the wires from plug in wheel well to 42 pin plug at ABS module they where going to correct two locations just backwards.
