I'm having white smoke out of my exhaust after re-assembling my motor, here's the details in my troubleshooting.
I recently decided to put my passat back together and had the head and block resurfaced; and had the head pressure tested and it was good. Block upon inspection seems to have absolutely no issues. GTX3071r Turbo has less than 1500 miles on it, and I am running an oil restrictor on it. Once I got it all together with a Cometic MLS head gasket, it smoked out of the exhaust pretty bad. I figured that it must have been the head gasket so I took the head off again, and installed a stock gasket sprayed with copper spray for extra sealing capability. Still had smoke in the exhaust.
I decided to just drive it and see what happened. Car drove and spooled just fine, but when I came to a stop there was a ton of smoke coming from underneath the turbo, got home and popped the hood and it was just pouring out of underneath the turbo. I figured it was a leak within the turbo. The smoke seemed to be coming out of the flange where the turbo and exhaust manifold meet; as well as my wastegate flange. That's when I decided to send the turbo off for testing. He tells me that there's absolutely nothing wrong with the turbo!! Suggested that maybe i'm pushing too much oil pressure and that it could be slipping past the seals; and that I should run a Tee and a gauge to check it.
The problem with that is that I haven't changed anything with the setup or oil sender.... EXCEPT when I removed the oil sender from the block originally, I found a check valve of some sort that was completely backed out ( SEE PICTURE )
I'm under the impression that this is a "Oil Retention Valve" which is supposed to keep the oil in the galleys in order to keep the bearings lubricated. Could this in anyway effect my oil pressure to the turbo?
I'm at the point where I don't know what to try anymore; I can't figure out this smoke issue.
Any and all help is appreciated.
