OK we all know that VW service basically sucks, but I figured they couldn't F up an oil change, I mean a well-trained monkey could do that, right? WRONG!!! I go in with my own filter (OEM) and a 5 quart jug of synthetic. Well, I WATCH the tech pour in the whole jug. Call me a moron, but that seems like too much. So I go around to pay the service dork, and tell him what happened and ask that he come outside with me to check the oil level. Sure enough, it reads ~1 qt high. I ask him to pull the excess out, and what does the schmuck say? "Well if you read the manual, you need to give the oil 1-2 hours to settle before you can get an accurate reading." Oh, so liquid takes an hour to settle? That's a new Law of Physics for me.

Do I LOOK like a moron? Did I just step off the boat from I Don't Have a F'ing Clue Land?????!!!!????!*

(*And no, I do not and did not.)

Needless to say, no VW dealer will ever see me in their service dep't again. And Martens VW/Volvo in Washington, DC will never see ANY of my business again.

Whoa!!! Are you kidding me?? Who was your service advisor? I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but it really does sound like that specific technician was being lazy. Please let me know which team/advisor you visited, because Martens will know about your concerns by the end of the day.

Well the tech was clearly a moron, but the service advisor was the Dick for his BS answer. Can't tell you who did it, since the receipt is in back of my car, which is right now in the VERY capable hands of NGP Racing in Aberdeen, MD. New suspension, btw would appreciate your thoughts on my other post.

Brother, everyone knows that you only go to the Purple Team (Victoria/Service Advisor) for modded VW's. The Master Technician at Martens works on that team and does things right! Did you speak with the Service Managers at the dealership? I'll speak to someone on Monday, I may even see them this weekend. I got you back bro!

Man, why drive all the way to Aberdeen to get a suspension installed? I would use NGP for major engine/transmission work but that's a long drive from the DC-Metro for a shock/spring install. Those guys do great work, but riding the Amtrack back to Union Station can be taxing..

Well, 1 2 and 3, I trust them. PLus, they are a LOT cheaper than anyone down here. It wasn't that bad, I got up early and was at work by 10am. I had tried Wheaton Svc Ctr on your recommendation for the 80K, but went to NGP for the TB since Wheaton said: "Oh, a TB on a B5 Passat? We've never done one of those." Also, on the 80K they were almost as much as the dealer. I WAS going to go to the guy in Woodbridge, but did not get a good vibe over the phone. So Neuspeed gets my money, and I get a deal and piece of mind, which is priceless.

I feel you on that.. I almost drove to Philly to have AWE Tuning put on my H&R's when they were first available for my W8.

What I've found is that there's so many shops in the area that do good work, but it's hard to find shops that do quality work at a nominal labor rate. I found a great tuner on the humble that does excellent VW work in Hanover, Md. Check out Induktion Motorsports.. Out of all people to hip me to a quality tuner, it was my own mother who recommended these guys after she had some brakework done to her 996. You can't go wrong with New German Performance, but I just wanted to find something a little bit closer to home.

It's tough. But Dave, one of the owners, met me at 8:00 at the shop (they open at 9am), we chatted for a few minutes and he drove me to the station for the 8:30 Amtrak, I was at Union Station at 9:36. Believe me, there is NO traffic Northbound on BW Parkway, I-895 or I-95 at 6am. Dave actually is the recommendation on the OE Sports, I'm just horrible at committing.

So why do I like them? Well I need a new clutch, they said just kill this one and you can get another one in a year. The last indie shop I used in DC forgot to tighten an axle, then fixed that F-up but never packed grease in. Plus, they took a chunk out of my tranny mount and never told me. For the record, The Shop in Washington, DC get major SUCK points in my book. The only real benefit is they they completely admitted the mistake in not putting the axle on right the first time. Quoting the owner: "What can I Say, I F'd up."

well, if he tryed to tell you the oil needed to settle, that would only mean that the level would read higer on the stick than it did when you first checked it.
