getting the rear doors lock mechanism repaired and so far only the passenger front door is coming along.

okay some one was asking me how much i paid for the bodywork on my civic

total cost for labour and painting was 1,035.00 cash.
part was supplied by myself and the job is pretty decent but took a lengthy amount of time since they are so damn busy in both bodywork and mechanical repairs.

I ordered most of my powertrain rebuild parts last week and now they are just arriving everyday.

ACL race bearing since I like to drive my cars super hard

But the application listed on them have me worried now. It does not say D16Y8 on them

type r shifter boot. real leather.

anodized aluminium short shifter

all new motor/tranny mounts. I really hate it when the mounts are soft when you let her rip.
BTW i ordered Prothane inserts.

today i got my vitara pistons, hasting rings and king bearings.
i'm looking at forged rods now but uncertain what metal needs to be removed from the block to have clearance.

my ARP bolts arrived today

now i noticed that i forgot the ring gear bolts for the LSD.

I picked up 98 or 99 D16Y8 and decided to moderately rebuild it so I will not have any headaches or problems down the road.

It is my daily driver and worst is to have it non operative.

here is the motor that was delivered for 5 bills. (Thanks David for doing it on short notice)

pretty much everything is there and will separate the head and tranny and send them out to get rebuilt first. So what else will i need??? The computer is a P2P.

I've got about the same car, 1996 ex sedan except mine has no rust. In the US it comes with the d16Y8 , not the Y7 you got there(from what I can see). Its a good little car but I think it is underpowered in the lower RPM, you need to get it up over 4k to move at all, they could have rounded that out a little better. Handling is great, better than all others in its class as far as I can tell.

lol, i think you're prob spending a bit too much on rebuilding the sohc motor for the sake of reliability. the sohc's are generally so cheap and plentiful, its usually best just to go buy another one when it blows. i'm on my 3rd motor for my crx si. the thing only cost me $200, and its been running great for the last 25k mi or so. all i did was change the plugs, air-filter, and just change the oil.

the EK sedan not a bad choice at all, but its meant to be more of a comfy econobox than a fun car. if you wanted something more comparable to a modded scirocco, an older EG civic Si (or even an older EF civic/crx Si) may have been better able to serve that purpose without too much mods at all, and great reliability to boot.

I'm getting everything done while the motor is in pieces and once completed I will swap out the old Y7 for the rebuilt Y8.
All this money spent on the Y8 is to prepare it for a TURBO charger.

I started to be an automotive accessories installer back in the mid 80's and got my mechanics certification in the early 90's.
I do not do this as a trade but just a past time for myself.
The HID lights are another past time as I hate the dim light output on cars.

if you're going to turbo it, might as well get some sleeves while ur rebuilding.
as far as the actual turbo goes, disco potatoe might be a good match for the sohc.

How were the bearings on that Y8? Do you know how many miles it had when you bought it? I heard that the Y8 seems to eat the bottom end a little quick than the other D series, I do hear of them throwing a rod rather regularly. I sometimes wonder if I need to take a look at one of mine.

well not if you got all the parts and know what you are doing.

the only work is bringing it to a shop to have it steamed cleaned as I don;t have that luxury at home.

when i purchased the Y8 i was told it had about 180,000 kilometers or about 110,000 miles.

Instead of spending some money to steam clean the block at the shop I made a ghetto garden hose hooked up to the hot water tank seems to do an okay job.

Degreased my Y8 crankshaft this late afternoon.

The brown stains and oil seems to come off easy with my ghetto garden hose setup.

As you can see there is a circular mark on the main journals since the bearings have grooves for oil to flow and lubricate.
So I started to polish these marks off

another hour of intricate polishing and the marks will be gone.

now i find there is one busted bolt i have to extract. does anyone know what size bolt this is?

i drilled the bolt but still it will not budge

yesterday the ASR subframe reinforcement, CTR swaybar, and Blox endlinks arrived.

the ASR subframe bar is awesome! I have it in conjunction with a ITR 22mm rear swaybar (no bar in the front). How thick is the CTR bar? YOu may also want to check out ASR's more beefy 30mm rear bar!

All this talk about modifing civics is encouraging me to get back on my ls-vtec eg!
