Hi Guys

My 2 litre B5.5 has had a few probs since i got it 12 months ago:-

June 03/July 03 Leaking air con(fixed twice).
July 03 Interior Alarm sensors(replaced).
Sept 03 Bonnet(Hood) Alarm sensor(replaced).
Sept 03 Air con filter housing leaking(Replaced).
Feb 04 4 Coils replaced after CEL.
March 04 20.000 service + replace pads and rotors all round.(Also asked them to check exhaust because of a rattle near Cat(Nothing found))

Now car is running Strange, ie exhaust is noisier than normal and engine is not quite as smooth as before..

What does everyone think it could be???

Have had enough of my local stealership so have decided to try another a few more mile`s away..

Hope you can help..

Can you describe the noise a little bit better? Where is it coming from? Does it get louder as you accelerate? Any changes in driving characteristics?

The engine is just rougher, exhaust louder, just not as smooth as it used to be..

It seems the 2.0's have an issue with the exhaust headers. I have a friend who cracked his somehow. Exhaust connections and leaks would be the first place I would check for unknown noises and a generally louder car.

Hi Guys

One week on and the exhaust now sounds like it is blowing from the rear/centre, under acceleration it sounds like i have a sports exhaust fitted not stock system.
It is also slightly noisier when cold!!!

What do you guys think it could be :???:

(Might book car into the dealer and say that the CEL came on a few time`s for no reason and while its in check the exhaust)

Car is still under warrenty but i think the exhaust is not covered (wear and tear)

Try using a "stethoscope" to figure it out. Take a short piece of garden hose, or vacuum cleaner hose, or similar, and place one end under the car, the other end to your ear, with the engine running. Move the car end around to various parts to listen to each part. I used this trick (someone else here at clubB5 suggested it) and pinned down a rattle to my right cat, which was just replaced under warantee. It really worked great. I would suspect you have a crack or leak somewhere in your exhaust system, or maybe a bad cat like me.

Tony,

Have them check the base of the COMBI-VALVE there is a brass plug that can wear out if you have had a vacuum leak or the combi valve was not operating properly.
