Missing some engine cover?

My 2013 Passat smells like it’s overheating- but the gauges are fine.
While looking under the hood, I noticed it seems like a cover is missing from the place I circled. Anyone know what part that is?

It's a cover for the fresh air intake of the engine. You can find one in just about any junk yard.

No the filter is under large engine cover.
