I recently had my whole front end redone. I have a 99 2.8 passat. My mechanic said he didnt like the way the strut fit in the spring on the struts I brought. Recently I hear a very very loud bang or pop sound and he says he feel like its the strut getting in a bind. Does anyone have a diagram of the proper way the strut is to go into the spring? Or a idea what elese it might be? I have every control arm new, both inner and outer tierods and new struts. New strut mount ( Rubber donut?)

I'm in eastern North Carolina. What is the torq on the top nut? I got a cheap strut off rockauto Stenson I think

If a mechanic wasn't comfortable with it, then something isn't right or they are inept. What shocks did you buy? Model numbers would help. There really isn't much to installing one. the spring seat has a stop where the end of the spring butts up to on top and bottom. As jjpark said, it could be that top nut. It drives people crazy.

Where in the US are you located? Maybe a member could assist. It's pretty easy to R&R one and should only take a 1/2 hour to pull it, compress the spring to tighten the top nut and put it back in.
