The locking system on my passat seems to have a mind of its own, every once in while when I push the lock button, it locks only the passenger side doors leaving the ones in the driver’s side unlocked. It also tries to lock the car while driving with all the locks down.

Any ideas on this? :???:

I had this one too. its a chip, $150 fix.

Instead just unlock all the doors again and lock it.

I'll get that fixed ASAP, it's starting to get worst.
Now it leaves the doors unlocked after puting the alarm on.

I get odd problems with all doors not unlocking sometimes, but never a problem locking thankfully.

What year is your car?

It does sound like a problem with the central (or comfort) control unit. Beware though if you have a particular door(s) that lock sometimes and not others, the door lock units are also prone to problems on older B5's.

Mine was acting flaky (similar to above spontaneous locking) when it was new, control unit was replaced under warranty. But for the last year or so the left rear door sometimes doesn't lock like the rest. If you open it though, the alarm will go off. Cycling the lock knob up and down a few times will make it behave correctly again for a while.

For ref if you do have a bad door lock unit, someone posted once that it could be disassembled and repaired because the problem is usually just a broken solder or other electrical connection inside the unit. The hardest part is that you have to disassemble much of the door to get to it.

I did just repair my door lock on the passenger side the dorr lock module was like a brand new mechanicaly. The problem was the electrical connector that was corroded. The damn connector is installed upside down so the water could infitrated it very easyly. I had to jump a wire, the pin was totally out of order. If the four door are in the same condition, it will be a mess, It took me about 3 hours to fix 1 door. Probably your dont need to replace the complete module, just fix it. To repaire the module it self took me 15 min.

The car is a B5.5 purchased in December 2001 as a 2002 model (2.0 Engine). I think is the module or the chip since it changes doors, sometimes is the front door, sometimes is the rear door and other times is both :crazy:.

Last night it was not locking the front door, I had to put the alarm two or three times until it locked properly. And when I'm inside the car, I just push the lock down with the finger when it gives me the problem.
