Anyone have a B5.5 Variant with a rear hatch that won't stay up when it's cold? This is how mine behaves:

  • summer - they are fine, pull hatch open and it stays
  • in the fall - mostly fine
  • early winter - 30 degree temps., I have to pull and hold the hatch in place before it will stay
  • mid-winter - single digits to teen temps., hatch will not stay up at all

With this cold blast we're getting, my hatch will not stay up. This is very annoying if I am loading or unloading multiple items.

I'm guessing my gas cylinders are shot. Can they be serviced or do I need new? If I need new, is there a better, more durable option than OEM? These only lasted 2.5 years (45k mi.).

Thanks

Yes, your cylinders are shot. AFAIK they cannot be serviced. Pep Boys, Autozone, et. al. sell them for reasonable prices. Not any less durable than OEM, maybe more durable.

Does this seem to be the normal lifespan, or did I get a couple of duds? I like the silver look but not at the cost of being functionally inferior. I'm assuming AutoZone will have mostly black and the nearest Pepboys is 30 mi. away.
