I heard about how bright LED headlights are and got a pair of H1 LED bulbs for my Audi A6. I didn't like them because I couldn't figure out how to make them fit.
The Passat headlight assemblies are totally different and these might work in the Passat. They have the CANBUS doohickey. They're waterproof. They have little teeny cooling fans.
I also have the original Hella headlights and turn signals from my 2000 Passat B5 (halogen). Price negotiable, will use PayPal discounted shipping.
