If your car has never had a CD changer in it.. then yes the dealer (or someone with a VAG-com) will have to recode the headunit to look for the CD changer
Just Purchased OEM 6-CD Changer for a 2002 W/ Monsoon
Can you help a newbie? Just purchased the OEM changer for the trunk. After I complete the installation, do I have to visit the Dealer in order to have the radio programmed to recognize the new unit?

are you guys sure about that, I just put the changer in, and the HU just picked up.

The only easy way to know is to just do it.
I plugged the changer in and it worked right away! Thanks, you saved me a trip to my local dealer and $$$$!
