I'm looking into some diamond stud earings for my special someone  and I know someone who is a jeweler. I was looking to spend between $1200-1500 and wanted .75-1 ct t.w. in a decent color and clarity. Here is what they came back with. They are 'Russian cut diamonds' in a 3 or 4 prong stud mounting:

.83 ct. t.w. I color SI/1 clarity $1250.00

.87 ct t.w. H color VS/2 clarity $1300.00

Are they giving me a good deal? (i've never bought diamond studs before so I don't really know what to expect...)

thanks,

Jason

I've got about .55 carat going for my gf and it has set me back about $650. They were originally .25 carat but you get full value on trade-up and the .55 carat were a little on sale.

I know that when i was pricing them out I would have been in about $1K for around a .75 - .80.

So that price doesn't seem too bad. Then again I am no expert.

Thanks!

BlueNile was more expensive so I am guessing that this is a better deal...

Here is the comparable ones on BlueNile:

0.82 ct t.w. H color SI1 clarity $1,626.00

0.82 ct t.w. H color SI1 clarity $1,658.00

0.84 ct t.w. H color SI1 clarity $1,666.00

0.78 ct t.w. H color VS2 clarity $1,674.00

0.94 ct t.w. H color VS2 clarity $1,906.00

So it looks like it would be around $1800 for something comparible to the second one on my list (.87 ct t.w. H color VS/2 clarity $1300.00)

compare them to the prices on bluenile.com
exactly what I was going to tell you.

Blue Nile is always a good comparison, the prices are very competitive.

Seems to be a good deal to me.
