They are  . It should be covered under you bumper to bumper warranty. Just listen carefully to narrow down the area and then check for anything loose underneath. Heat shields on the cat and exhaust manifolds are known to rattle.

Got this from VW UK website:-

The Volkswagen Warranty guarantees your car should it require repairs following sudden failure covered by the terms and conditions of this warranty. Replacement parts and labour will be paid for with the following understandable exceptions:

Routine servicing (all parts replaced associated with routine servicing are excluded)
All bodywork and glass
Wear and perishable items as follows:
All adjustments
Batteries
Bulbs and fuses
Exhaust system (catalytic converters are covered)
Interior and exterior trims
Non-genuine manufacturer's parts
Tyres and wheels
Un-encased drive belts
Wiper blades and arms
Wiring and connections (including HT leads and aerial co-axial cables)
Worn brake discs, drums and frictional material
Worn clutch pressure plates, bearings and frictional material

Looks like they are right!!
