I was told it was possible to install the center console from a MK4 Jetta (from behind the shifter, back that houses the armrest) with a little work on the handbrake. I've got a 2001 B5 Passat that I'd like to put it in. Any idea how true this is before I spend the money on one? I like cupholders, okay?! Those "coin trays" are useless!

I suppose it's an option as well. There's just more Jettas in the junkyards near me. I'm really just looking for something with cupholders. I think the handbrake rubs on the B5.5 one as well from what I saw somewhere else. I've got a 5 speed so the handbrake gets used often. Could be wrong but that's why I'm here, wondering if anyone has maybe even found a direct swap over from any car to the Passat with minimal customizing and that has two cupholders preferably.

You swap the handbrake lever with the center console on from the B5.5. It's far better than the MKIV center armrest as it's wider, has better padding and it extends.

I heard the colors are a little off since I've got a beige interior and there was some customizing to get it to fit around the shifter unless I just swap all of that as well. Maybe I'll look for one at the local yard. Worth a shot I guess!

Beige is harder to match since it changed in 02 or 03 to a brighter yellow. The 05 beige is probably closer to the 01.
