I am working on a 1998 Passat 1.8T AEB for a friend. She seems to have the commom ICU / ICM failure. I have verified that it is cyl2 that is dead. Putting a new coil pack on that cyl. has no effect, nor does moving the coil pack around.

I have verified its cyl. 2 by dropping injectors to sense change in motor. It is defenitly cyl 2.

My question is, never working on these cars before, where is the ICM located? I would like to have it pulled ok so when the new one arrives, I can drop it in a jiffy.

Thanks for the help.

What year were the same ICM used? Do you have to use a 98 in a 98 or is there a range of ICMs you can use.

I would like to test it from a working car, just want to make sure the parts are compatable.
