I don't think it's silly. From a production perspective it's probably a TON cheaper to make a single bottom end motor and differentiate the top end than produce two completely different long blocks.

The 325 has a 3.0L motor with 215hp/185ft-lbs of torque. the 330 has a 3.0L motor with 255hp/220ft-lbs of torque. There seems to be enough of a power differentiation to require the badging difference.

I don't believe the 3 series ever had the 3.5L 6-cylinder. Only the 5-series got it, way back. But don't quote me on that last little bit.

Look at the pic from the rear. It's not disguised and looks production-ready. I don't think the camo is hiding anything. Probably just to throw people off.

In High Skool my friend's dad had a 635 with a factory turbo, it was the only 645 designation that I have seen. I think it was an '85 model.
