Wow...

Where do I start. I originally logged in to Club B5 in 2001. Since my member name has been lost. But on to the good stuff. I am the proud owner of a SILVER 2000 Passat GLX and it no longer wants to be a part of my family. I just got a oil change like 1,500 miles ago. I presumed everything was fine until I started to hear very LOUD disturbing knocking noises from my engine. I had a self proclaimed VW specialist check it out and I had not a lick of oil in my reservoir and to top that off he tells me I either need to get a top engine rebuild or get a new engine. I simply can't afford this expense. I only have one vehicle and me and my wife just purchased a new home.

I NEED A NEW ENGINE OR SOMEBODY IN THE SAN DIEGO AREA WHO CAN REALLY PINPOINT MY PROBLEM AND FIX IT FOR ME, WITHOUT ME HAVING TO VISIT THE DEALERSHIP AND PAY THE HIGH PRICES.

PLEASE HELP, I NEED MY B5!!!!!

THANX,

Rob Gotti aka Silver Surfer 2000

How many miles do you have on your car? Who changed your oil? They may not have tightened something correctly, in which case they will pick up the tab. If it is a problem that had nothing to do with you, your 10/100 powertrain warrenty should take care of it. As far as transportation, I would suggest going to your insurance company, you may have something outlined in your policy allowing you a rental car for the time being. Possibly even grounds for an insurance claim as a last resort. Unfortunatly there are not many members with the experiance to do a complete engine rebuild, and even so, you would still have to buy all the parts and give them something for their work. I don't know the specifics on your engine damage, but I would say you are looking at 2500 minimum, with no labor.

If I were you i would check the local Vdub clubs and get some good hook-ups. i remember a club called Europosch (I think I messed up the spelling) they had a lot of nice vdubs and I'm sure they have a local tuner as well as a mechanic.

Wish I could help some more.

Unless you can drive or flatbed that bad boy to Ron @ VW specielties Huntington Beach.

That engine off of Ebay is a 1.8! If he intergrated to that engine verses the V6 that is in the car that whole expense thing could become very $$$$$. If his car is a manual which in 2000 they made that option available on the V6 he would need a new tranny and what-not as this one looks like it is for an automatic. Good luck with things

Oh , didn't realise it was a V6.
Didn't they make a 1.8 GLX?

I agree if it's the wrong engine he needs to look elsewhere..
