I have a question. I'm looking at this thread: http://www.passatworld.com/forums/volkswagen-passat-b5-discussion/312537-official-guide-knowing-if-you-have-b5-b5-5;-fwd-4motion.html There are pictures here, but all I see is an ad for Photobucket telling me to update my account to enable 3rd party hosting. This looks to be about uploading, but I'm not interested in uploading, I just want to see the photos that someone else posted. What can I do?Hi gang.
I thought I would do a quick thread that would help the new users learn how to post digital images to the forums as it seems to be a common problem.
Unless you have a web server with your pictures loaded on you are going to need a location on the internet to load your pictures. There are websites that will allow you to upload photos and then link to them from forums. My personal favorite is photobucket.com but apparently imageshack.us is popular too, there are many available. For the purpose of this thread I will use http://www.photobucket.com.
So go to this site and register an account, it is free. Once you have registered and logged in using your user name and password you can begin uploading photos.
Once you have logged in you will be on the main page for your account. You will see the title "Upload Images & Videos", if you click on the "Browse" button you can select your digital images from your hard drive. Once you have selected your photo, you can click on "Uploading Options" and select the size in which Photobucket will resize your image. I usually select "1024X768" as this is an ideal size for the forum. Next just click "Upload" and your photo will be uploaded.
Now you will be back on the main page for your account, below you should see a thumbnail of your photo. Below this there will be a box titled "IMG code" this is the code that the forum uses to display images, you can copy this text and paste it in a thread the forum will know to look at that web address for your photo.
The code looks like this (without the underscore next to img) [_img]http://whereyourphotoislocated[/img]
Below this text is the "img code" but you can't see it.
If anyone can think of anything else to add please do!!
To add to that, the Photobucket fee is a whopping $400 per year! So, don't expect anyone to be paying it...For the photos hosted on Photobucket, those photos are no longer accessible to anyone unless the owner of the photos pays for a valid Photobucket account and enables third-party hosting. Photobucket is a fee-based service now, no longer free. The only way anyone can see those photos is for the original poster to upload their photos to some other location than Photobucket, or pay Photobucket to enable third-party hosting. If they re-host the images to another location, the original poster would need to either edit or re-post their original posting and alter the code to show the new photo location.

I have a post in the Infobase with "broken" pictures. Is there any way to edit that post? The "edit" link doesn't appear.
Also, has anyone found an excellent hosting site?
Like many, I have been frustrated after Photobucket held many of my photos on various sites for ransom.
Found these links on another website.
I installed the add-on in my Firefox browser
Thought I'd share..
