How-To: European Interior Monitoring (Innenraumüberwachung/IRÜ)

For those who do not know, Interior Monitoring is really motion sensors for the alarm system; they sense movement inside the car and if a window is broken. They are part of the "anti-theft alarm system" that was an option in Europe, when you wanted the alarm in Europe it came with this and was not a special extra option. I did this because I am passionate about Euro-mods and wanted to have a more secure car. In the video I had posted, there is a delay before the alarm goes off, this is because the sensors I have are for a Golf and the timing of Passat ultrasonic signals is different.

This mod, when all the parts are in-hand, should take approximately 5-6 hours start-to-finish; not including the DWA siren.

This mod worked on my car with a 1J0 CCM (non-CAN) and has worked for the few others that have done it in VW Golfs and Jettas. I am not responsible for ANY damage that may occur to your vehicle, i.e. do this at your own risk.

3B0 951 172 G 8YS-right-Light Beige
3B0 951 172 G Y20-right-Pearl Grey

Note: Black units not listed here are for a Golf only, if you want part numbers, let me know.

Note: The housings for the sensors are used for the auto-dimming rear-view mirror, you can clip these out of a junk yard for cheap (mine were $5.00, compared to over $50 from the dealer), the pins for the switch and CCM can be taken from the headlight switch connector, the switch and corresponding connector must be dealer-bought however.
Left Sensor Contact Housing: 4D0 972 623
Right Sensor Contact Housing: 4B0 971 833
Pins for connector: 000 979 018 (x5)
Switch for Disconnect: 4B0 962 109 A 01C
Connector: 1J0 972 722
Pins for connector: 000 979 133 (x2)
Pins for CCM: 000 979 131 (x1)

Dremel (to cut hole in B-Pillar for switch)
VDS-PRO with serial cable (to make coding changes)

This Needs to be Done no Matter What CCM you Have:
You will need to add a diode to a wire on the front dome light, clip the brown/white wire that carries the "Door On" power signal, the end of the resistor that has the stripe (cathode) will face the vehicle harness, the side of the resistor that does not have the stripe will face towards the light housing (anode).

Wiring for 1J0 CCM's ONLY:

T15 refers to CCM 15-pin connector
T23 refers to CCM 23-pin connector
T6 refers to 6-pin connector for right lamp/sensor
T4 refers to 4-pin connector for left lamp/sensor
T4a refers to 4-pin connector on cancellation switch

Wiring for Switch:
T4a/1→ T15/9, T6/5, T4a/2
T4a/2→T4a/1 (Connect with diode, cathode/stripe facing harness)

Pictures:
My pictures don't show everything and wiring does not need to be routed exactly as depicted. The wiring I have written here is EXACT, just follow what is written, and if you have any questions feel free to contact me, I check this site numerous times throughout the day.

Coding Changes for 1J0 CCM ONLY:

Ready VDS-Pro for use, Turn ignition on, plug cable into car.
Press Esc to exit connection sequence, Press alt+f to open configuration menu, select connections, press alt+t, press enter.
Type 46 for CCM, Type 11 for login, Type 19283 then enter twice.
Type 26 to read values at below addresses, COPY DOWN ORIGINAL VALUES!!!
Type 27, enter address, then enter new code.

Address/New Value
4281/136
4287/136
4293/136

Type 10 for adaptation, Type 5, Type 1, then enter until complete.
Read the addresses above, they should now be at 140 after the adaptation.
Type 06 to close connection, you are done, test for functionality (note the sensors do not activate for 30-60 seconds after arming alarm) have a beer if it works, or if it doesn't, have one anyway because it was a hell of a lot of work, contact me for help or check it yourself.

Address/New Value
04355/Add 12 to current number
04356/Add 12 to current number
04357/Add 12 to current number

Note: In the 1C0 coding, when you add 12 to the original value it enables the alarm system to stay active when the door is opened via the physical key (the alarm will not go off until 10 seconds have passed) To stop the alarm from going off by disabling the alarm, the key must be turned in the ignition. This is the "security update" that stops thieves from stealing the car and/or the stereo when forcing the door lock open with a screwdriver. If for some reason you do not want this feature, simply add 8 instead of 12 to the original value. This update also works for some late model 1J0 vehicles, not all.

Will a Moderator Please move this to the Info-Base Forum so it will not get lost.
Cool. Just so I'm clear, can you explain what this does over and above my factory alarm system? I assume it allows me to park the car with the windows down and have a motion sensor alarm for the car interior?

It does that, and senses when a window is broken to set the alarm off.
If a moderator wants more pictures for this to be posted in the "Info-Base" forum, please let me know what pictures you would like and I shall add them.
Bump so this does not get lost.
Quick question. Where would I be able to source these parts? Does the dealership still have the ability to get them for us or do I need to keep searching for them on the bay? Really interesting in doing some more euro mods to my car.
why does it matter the color? what needs to be added/replaced?

You can get them through the dealership, but they are REALLY expensive; so the better route is to go through ebay.de and ebay.co.uk
The advice I can give you is be patient to find the right parts and be careful in the wiring and coding process, if there is anything I can do to help just let me know.

The color is the actual color of the light housing itself, what color will match the rest of your interior (i.e. tan/black/gray)
What do you mean by what needs to be replaced, was it the color confusion?
