Today I was getting on the freeway accelerating a bit when my car (2000 1.8t 5spd) lurched forward with a loss of power, then power was back, then lurched again. I clutched and costed for about 5 secs, shifted to third and there was no power. It was like right after you have hit the governer in a car and it makes you slow down temporoarly. I never rev'd it above 5000rpm when I was getting on the freeway. When I let the clutch up again the power was back and it seemed to drive fine for the remainder of the trip... about 10 min. It felt just like my old ford ranger when the Mass air flow sensor went bad in it. I though about cleaning the MAF... your thoughs? What would be the correct way to clean the MAF? The rest of the night the car has been fine. Thanks for your help.

Woody

P.S. The car only has about 44000 miles on it.

Thanks, but the pictures aren't working. From reading my description, do you think this could be the cause for my loss of power?
