Sorry if i have posted in wrong area but no ones browsing the radio/electrical forum.

Hi can anyone tell me how long the security code is for a head unit out of a 98 aeb code 1.8t, i dont have a sticker or card with the owners manual but there is a line of numbers written on the back page, (could be a phone number though) as i am about to get the car chipped and i have noticed that the battery needs disconnecting to remove the ecu. Or if anyone knows if the code is hidden on a sticker in the car somewhere (i read in another topic that its hidden in the spare wheel well)?

If not can vw dealers get the code for me?

Thanks in advance

The code is 4 digits long, and is usually supplied with your owners manual (a removable card).

If you don't have this, then VW can give you the code for your radio. You need to bring the car in though. I think they verify the VIN, and get the radio code. Is it the original radio that came with the car? If it isn't then you're screwed...

Thanks Jimmy.

As far as i know its the original radio, only had the car 8 weeks. I know i can get the radio decoded by some car electronic's companies over here if VW can't help, might tie it in with a recall check on drive shaft bellows that i need to get done.
