I've had my 5sp wagon for close to 4 months now, no problem. If you've driven a 1.8T Passat before you will not find much difference inside, or even with handling in its stock form. I personally find the suspension too soft so I am eagerly waiting for after market springs to become available, while shocks and beefier rear sway bar are already available. Fuel consumption is between 8.5 and 9 l/100km, just about 1 l/100km more than my previous FWD 1.8T wagon. I'm happy! 8)

Why not go with coilovers? I just put them on my
04.5 GLS, 5spd. , 4mo. Variant. They rock.

Stiffer ride, improved reaction times, everything is good.
If only I can decide how low I want it!! :D

Oh- by the way, the car is friggin' incredible. Loving every
minute, BADANTH.

Basically, $...

Last month I phoned Eibach and they told me they were planning a trial on the 1.8T 4Mo wagon this month and if it works out that a kit would be available in July. I have my fingers crossed!

If for some reason that doesn't come through, I will probably go with just the shocks upgrade and rear sway bar. I'm really not sold on coilovers, due to cost and apparent stiffer ride than separate spring/shocks combo; maybe I'm wrong...
You can use the V6 4MO H+R Sport springs. They give the V6 a 1/2" rake. The lighter weight of the 1.8 will make it a level drop.

With Koni shocks, the rear height is adjustable to level the car out if needed.
I replaced my '02 4motion with a '04 1.8T 4mo variant. I love it. Couldnt justify spending 5 grand more for the 20 extra horsepower. That 5 grand will buy a lot more than 20 horsepower if I need it. Picking up 18" BBS VZs tomorrow, have to find a place around here that I can trust to paint the lowers, doing some research on how I am gonna lower it, I dont want to go more than an inch really since I drive on crap roads and in the mountains a lot. My one complaint about the car is the 15" rims...who the hell makes a $25-30K with 15" rims.
Purchased a 1.8T 4mo M in mid April at a great price, 2500 miles and some simple mods so far, only complaint is a driveline rumble.
Picked up mine (4 mo tiptronic) on March 30, coming up on 7000 miles.

Love it. Quiet, comfortable, enough zip on the highway (lags a bit off the line).

Looking forward to trying it in snow next winter. I'll be interested in how the 4mo compares to my wife's Subie. The Subie beats the hell out of the Broncos I used to drive
~2500 happy miles in mine (4-mo sedan 5-speed), still stock. fuel economy is a bit lower than I had hoped to get, but it's been improving as the car breaks in. Gearing, lower final drive, extra driveline drag, and about 400 lbs of weight (over my former B5-"classic") will do that I guess.
very happy

despite some installation issues when I had my mechanic install the FK coilovers, I've been very happy and now that everything is squared away, I am having a blast on the twists on my way to work. Handle's better than my '00 Golf with Eibach Pro-System Plus did. Here's a pic, she is slightly higher now and has the Sharan antenna which also isn't shown.

What kind of gas mileage are you getting with the 1.8Tips? I'm getting around 30mpg now with my 1.8TQAT5 A4's but I believe they're heavier too. :eek:h:
1.8T 4mo with Tiptronic:

I get a blended 26 - 27 mpg tank to tank, but a good portion of my driving is on the highway.

Highway only, 30 - 32 mpg

Around town ('burbs), 20 - 23 mpg

Occasional 'just in the city',

I only have 1200 miles on my car and my cas milage sucks right now. Its inline with the V6 I had, 24-25. Then again it isnt really broken in and I drive 80+ on the highway. I bet if I slowed it down to less than 70 I would gain a lot.
I have the 5 speed with 16" 225 summer tires and am only getting 22-24 mpg -3/4 highway and 1/4 city. I'm not driving hard and am averaging 65-75 mph on hwy. No other mods (or racks or anything) at all. I only use 93 octane fuel. I am perplexed and dismayed with the milage but, otherwise like the car very much. I had occasion to test it out in Canada in March on snow and ice w/blizzaks: It was unstoppable.
Not bad at all. I got a '04 1.8T 4Mo Wagon. Heavy as hell. I hate the turbo lag and throttle-by-wire in stop-and-go traffic. Drives great on the freeways. It's my family cruiser.

I just got 18" wheels and I am hoping this doesnt kill my mileage even more. At least gas prices are finally going in the other direction...so much for better gas mileage than the V6.
Prior to mounting 17's was getting 30 Highway, looks like a 3mpg loss after the swap.
