Whats the maximum horsepower u can pull out of a VW 1.8T engine?
I hear rumours that a guy pulled out somewhere around 600.. with loads of modifications ofcourse.. does anyone know any detailed information?

If that car is daily driver than 600 BHP (or worst WHP) is totaly useless. You will not be able to drive that car normaly arround city. If you make drag strip car than it is other story.

Are you tinking about this car?
He got 596hp or so in his 1.8T engine

You can achieve around 230hp on a standard KO3 with an after market control unit. As someone has already pointed out a KO4 upgrade is the way to go if you want relaible power. You can also buy 2.0l conversions from TSR Performance which will give you a better torque delivery and much less stress on the 1.8t bottom end. Also bare in mind that the S3 and TT units run lower compression so you can throw more relaible boost at them. For a road car 350hp is easily done but I have seen 600hp on a 1.8t here in the UK. The question is, how long will it last??
