I have a 1999 Volkswagen Passat 1.8 l t aeb motor somebody used my car to jump their car hook the battery up backwards car starts but dies with no throttle response throwing code p1565 information I got was blown fuse bad relay open circuit I searched all the fuses on the panel in the door on the driver side located none what would be my next step . Relays or are there more fuses I'm not seeing. The panel that labels the fuses is missing went through one by one all good. Also there's a high pitch noise coming from the throttle body or throttle body position sensor or in that area it stays on for about 10 seconds and then shuts off
So far I have reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and touching them together car still did the same thing one more question when they say open circuit exactly what do they mean

Ive uploaded a pdf if any one can. Look at it and point me towards the right fuses relays or sensors and or solution I hang my head in shame I learned that never let some one else other than a professional hook up jumper cables never hook up until you are certain both batteries are correct it only took half a second been down ever since thanks love the Passat world community. Very çool and informative.

Man, aren't you lucky VW apparently built in protections for the dreaded "battery backwards" installation. I'm old enough to have seen a whole, not VW, car fry due to such an event...

To the left of the brake (or clutch, as the case may be) pedal, about a foot up, there are some high powered fuses....I would check that location out also...

A reversed battery can definitely cause problems for you. While electronic modules may have reverse-polarity protection, the alternator doesn't. There are six rectifier diodes in the alternator, and they will be shorted to ground and quickly ruined if the battery connections are reversed.

If your car was running when the jumpers were connected (as it should have been) it should not damage your car,
except for a small chance of battery or alternator damage.
Your car would not have received any reverse voltage, it would have just had a very high current draw.
Any reverse voltage damage if any, would have been to the other car.

I think something might have been physically damaged while connecting the cables, or it is just coincidence.
