Hitachi Coil Pack Version E - Anyone using them?

6039 Views 20 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  slofizz
Another coilpack failed on me yesterday while driving home. 2 so far in 38K miles. So I replaced it with the "R" Version which I had in my glove box. But I was wondering if anyone is using the Hitachi made coil packs? I heard they do not fail as often. Any advice or opinions would be great. Thanks.

This ECS Stage I Ignition solution converts your troublesome & hard to get Bremi brand coil packs (oem part # 06B 905 115L or R) with the more durable Hitachi brand coil pack. Over the years the Hitachi has shown to be much more durable than the Bremi's along with being able to be secured to the valve cover with 2 allen headed bolts. This ECS stage I ignition solution kit includes the following:

* Four OEM "E" version Hitachi coil packs
* 8 stainless steel securing screws & washers
* O-rings for sealing new coil packs to cylinder head

I lost 2 coil packs in 48k miles so far (2 in the last month). Just ordered the Hitachi coil packs after reading on several message boards that they are better. From what I read, better is still not bulletproof and the Hitachi coils still experience failures once in a while.
Does anyone know why coil packs fail? My friend was saying because of the humidity yesterday, some cracks in some circuit could cause a short or something.
could be alot of differenet reasons such as age, shorting, humidity, etc
I've been running these coil packs for almost 10k miles with no CEL or failure, knock on wood.
The Hitachi's are know to basically be bullet-proof. I don't even stock them in my parts department they are so reliable.

did you notice any improvement in performance when switch to these
#2/3 started backing out on me so I used ECStuning and just replaced with with the upgraded OEM ones.

Not sure the elevated price of the Hitachi's are worth it....what more do you get for spending more?

the price that ecstuning is offering is high, you can get them cheaper/same price as current coil packs at 1stvwparts. i have had 2 coil packs fail on me in the last 40K, so I was looking to get something that was supposedly better.
how do u know when your coil packs are gone?
One cylinder stops firing, you have no power and a flashing CEL
I've been using version E coilpacks since i rebuilt my motor. Put about 6k on them in about a year with no problems at all.
Mine came with the Hitachi's from the factory and I've got 120k miles on them and not a peep.

Man...had I known that, I would have gotten the Hitachis then...I just bought the upgraded OEM ones and been great ever since (6 months)

Will VAG-COM tell you wich cylinder is misfiring. How long does it take to replace coil packs on B5 V6
