Hi,

I have a 2001 B5 GLX Wagon, about 132,000 miles. Recently, two issues have come up and I would appreciate any help from forum members.

First, I have been getting a driver's side, passenger compartment leak. I initially felt water dripping down from the A pillar onto my lap. That was after a very bad storm. This morning, I felt the dripping from the driver's sun visor. I looked at the vanity light, and there was water INSIDE. I recently checked the sunroof drains (or at least, the ones I could see) and thought they were free from debris. I have a picture of the wet area around the vanity light, AFTER I dried up the water inside. Any ideas?

Second, I used the car on a very hot (for Ohio) day in the mid-80s. I looked at the rearview mirror, and it had an oval area of discoloration. It seems that the fluid inside has pooled and is leaving an area bare. This morning, the fluid has settled down even more and is now in the shape of a smiley. The mirror USED TO auto-dim, but that feature has not worked for a few years. My concern is the fading of the mirror itself. Is this permanent? Is there anything I can do to reverse it? Should I just replace the entire mirror?

Hopefully, the pictures will load properly.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think it almost has to be a sunroof drain issue. If the drains appear to be clear then the tubing must have become disconnected.

As for the mirror. The problem is not reversible and the mirror would need to be replaced. While not a common problem it does come up from time to time.
I think this is the part # for your mirror GLX dimming rain sensing pearl gray 3B0857511JY20. However they ain't cheap you are looking at around $280, so you may want to keep an eye on ebay or your local pick a part junkyard for a used one.

Ya know I learn something new every freaking day! Just did a little searching and found two companies the will repair the dimming mirrors! Who knew!
I have no experience with them so contact both and go with whom ever you think is best and let us know how it goes.

The first one comes from Audi and BMW forums.
