help ASAP with bleeding brakes

731 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  D.Passat00
I wanted to get the fluid in the calipers out before the race tomarrow, so i had my bro get in the car, removed the cap to the resevoir and had him pump the brakes 3 times to the floor, then hold it to the floor, i opened the right rear bleed screw and only some fluid came out.

do i need to have the car on while on the jack stands to get this to work properly

my other question is, then since i let air in the lines, or i think i could have, i opened up a 4 month old bottle of ATE type 200, it was never opened and not damaged, but the fluid inside of it is dark in color, not the light almost opaque color or the first container. does it have a shelf life. what should i do about my car on jack stands now???

car off . . . . he needs to continue pumping to bleed the brakes . . .

ATE type 200 isn't supposed to be dark.

Go to Autozone or Kragen and pick up some Valvoline Synpower brake fluid.

how much did you drain out? you might have enough left in the brake reservoir to drive. how much brake fluid is left in the reservoir?
if the car beeps at me cause its low, and i can stop in the driveway, can i drive it safely?

don't risk your 30k car on something like that . . . .

uh no, that won't be a good idea. i wouldn't risk it.

do you have any dot 4 fluid where you are? you could use that just to fill it enough to get going.
got new vavaline synthtic stuff and did a complete flush. i hope the valvaline stuff is as good as the ATE type 300 stuff. or i hope that i didn't do more damage than good trying to prepare my car for tomarrows auto-x

its something like 10 or so degrees less of a dry boiling point than the ATE stuff. Nothing you're going to notice.
