This last week I started getting the dredded 'STOP, ABS brake' warning light intermittedly. I had a local shop run the codes and found that the control module had failed.

The lowest i've seen a new module w/ traction control for is around $800. Used closer to $400. However, this shop didn't want to replace it and thought the job might be best performed by the dealer (hahahaha). I've never had a pleasant trip to the dealer so i'm looking for a shop in LA that can perform the work at a reasonable rate.

Anyone replace theirs with a used control unit successfully?

It isn't hard.

You just want to use a good power bleeder when finished.

You obviously also must have a VW-oriented scan tool to erase any fault codes and recode the new module if necessary.
