Took my car to the highway port truck scales the other day and with me in it, fishing poles and tackle, and with less than a half tank of fuel, 3,900lbs :banghead: I had no idea it would come close to that. I have weighed all my cars on the same scale and its been pretty legitimate always. V6 GLX 4motion/tip and I'm only 155lbs lol. Anyone else weigh theirs recently?

Wagon or sedan? 4motion automatic V6 is about the heaviest you can get...

my fwd 1.8t sedan only weighs 3000 pounds with about 1/4 of a tank..that was at a local autocross event

4motion alone easily adds 300-400 pounds.. you got two extra axles, an extra differential, a driveshaft... plus automatics are always heavier than their manual counterparts.. probably by 100 pounds

and the V6 engine is a bit heavier than the 4 cylinder.. not sure by how much, but not as significant

also, with the GLX you got power/heated seats which are always suuuuper heavy... those are the big things I can think of off the top of my head..

do you have manual hvac or climatronic? climatronic probably adds a bit of weight, too.

Passat's are definitely the "curviest" of the VW family. You can even just feel it when you open the door...it's solid...then try opening/closing a door of a civic or camry.

its the sedan with what seems to be every option except traction control; I was thinking it would be in the 3600lb range, so 3900 made me laugh a bit. I definitely don't wonder why it is a bit of a dog in takeoff/ lower rpms... the thing is a rolling brick

OTOH, they were one of the highest-rated cars for crash safety in their day. Lots of metal has it's good side.
this is why i drive one. ive been hit in a first gen saturn. i didnt like seeing plastic from the back pass the front. gimme metal and gimme survivability. in the saturn i was standing still and a GMC 2500 hit me doing 25. it pushed the tail lights against the seat backs and the deck lid into the rear window. stripped the gears in the drivers seat, AND removed the radio from the dash. took a show car to no car in no time flat.

(GRIN) I used to drive some pretty big cars, WAY before airbags and crush zones. 1988 Mercury Cougar vs. Chevy Cavalier: I drove home, the Chevy was totaled. Ditto 1965 Pontiac Catalina vs. Camaro.

I had an 87 tempo coupe that survived a 45mph Camry tboning it in the driver side. I was the driver. The only accident I ever had. 20 yrs ago. Bent the car, pushed the floor in past the clutch pedal. I was leaning on the door and center armrest st the same time. No broken bones.

my brother got rear-ended in a 93 ford tempo... completely crushed the front of the tacoma that hit him- only bent up the tempo near the rear wheels and broke the front seats; the tempo was totalled but it was only valued at like $800

My dad had a '71 Chevy Caprice, another guy had a '88 Hyundai ( those were the crap-tacular years for them). Hit my dads car square from behind ( bumper to bumper contact) and accordioned his front end, scratched my dads bumper. It was a low speed collision in a parking lot.
