Ok, I've done a search, but can't find the answer......maybe too simple of a question. How do I safely remove the heated seat swithes without damaging anything. Do they pry out? Passenger side heated seat not working and I'm assuming swapping drivers side switch would be a simple test of the switch in question. Also if the switch is bad, what do they run $?. Only available from the dealer?

03' GLX 4motion wagon
Thanks!

First of all - you should be covered by VW (depends on when your car was delivered). Also, I'd check if the passenger's side heat system works when somebody actually sits on the seat ;)

I'm not the original owner, so VW isn't going to do anything for me....right. My wife tells me it isn't working....she rarely gets to drive the car herself:lol:

Yes, they will.
Warranty transfers in full and more importantly there is a full blown recall on the heated seats for 03s. You could have stolen it, and they'll replace it.

Even though the dealer earlier replaced both melted front seats in my 2003 Variant, he says NOW that the switch is not covered by the recall. Any suggestions ?

Recall replaced it on second request

Thanks to this forum, I called the "recall specialist" at the dealer, who corrected the service manager and will replace the heated seat switch FOR FREE. The recall specialist said the service writers often don't know what is covered, and what isn't. I've often wondered what an amazing profit motivator VW recalls are for dealers. My previous car was an old 5speed Honda Accord sport wagon, driven for 130,000 miles with NO recalls and never failed to start and go. I've lost count of the number of Passat recalls.

Don't know what year your Honda was, but for example:

NHTSA recall search for 2001 Honda Accord, 14 recalls
NHTSA recall search for 2001 Volkswagen Passat, 3 recalls
