Greasing new window regulator - advice please

Cheers for looking.

Ive got a new window regulator panel to fit next week and reading some threads it seems advisable to grease it up first.

2 questions really...

1. Any recommended grease or is white lithium grease ok
2. which bits are best to grease, just where the rollers are on the corners or down the metal frame where the cable runs as well. Dont want to over do it and create a dust trap.

thanks in advance

I don't know so much about greasing the regulator itself, but I always spray down the felt channels my window glass slides through whenever it seems the windows are slowing down or getting squeaky and creaky with silicone spray. If I were to grease the regulator itself, I would use silicone lube so that no plastic or rubber parts are degraded by it.

All the regulators I've ever bought new came with a clear or opaque white grease, I assume silicone. I never added more as it always seemed about right. Grease is on the cable, rollers, and the track itself. While you're in there, I'd recommend a dry silicone lube like Elmer's in the track the window slides in. Not the regulator track, the felt/rubber sleeve that actually touches both sides of the window at the edge.

Thankyou. There is a small amount of visible grease on them, I had just read about adding more.

I will put a silicone lube onto the window felt track once the new regulator is in place.

Many thanks

Welcome to the unregulated regulators club. I just replaced the pair of plastic clips on the passenger side front door of the Passat wagon. I did 3 of the 4 doors while I had the 1996 Audi A4, including a full regulator and cable replacement on the driver's door, and plastic clips on the two right side doors.

I remember doing a regulator job on my '96; was somewhat of a hastle compared to my '05 A4. On the B6, the entire window frame and regulator lifts out of the door as a unit, making the regulator change a convenient bench job.
