They have 14k miles on them on my 1.8T, and I would expect them to last forever. They are solid, no liquid to leak out. However, I didn't like the extra vibration when sitting in "D" at a traffic light.
If you want the decreased engine movement when you shift, and have a manual or a V6 or don't care about a bit more vibration, they can be yours for half the price of new ones: $95 for the pair plus shipping, or pick up local in San Jose area.
