Does anyone know what the size is of the factory front sway bar on a 99 B5? I am thinking of upgrading to the 29mm that's on the group buy but i dont konw how bigger it is from the factor.

Don't buy a bigger front bar... buy a adjustable rear bar instead.
it really depends on what you like. i know a fellow CB5er who has a front sway w/o the rear sway, and likes it that way.
I have a front sway bar! I have Neuspeeds bar! I like it, and will be adding the Neuspeed's rear sway bar!!!

I like it, it is much tighter in turns, but do what you want! I like mine but this is the type of mod that is personal perferance!

Like 99% of cars sold to the public, Passats understeer. This is nice and safe for the normal driver. To get more neutral handling, you need to stiffen the rear. (compared to the front) A number of things can be done to acheave that....

1. Rear Sway Bar

2. Higher Rear Tire Pressure

3. Increased Spring Rate (Shocks also have some say)

All of these must be higher in relationship to the front values compared to the stock setup. (going up the same front amd rear just keeps te same ratio and same understeering as stock)

I always run my rear tires about 4-5 PSI higher then the fronts. Not much change, but a little.

Ever read the tests on the original Integra Type 2? First production FWD that you get to oversteer. Massive rear sway bar did it. A very flickable car...not for the average joe either!

aprpassat already has the rear sway, he's thinking of adding on the front sway to finish up the package.

Then adjustable would definately be the way to go.....
Stock is either 27mm or 29mm (wagon). The upgrade is a solid bar. I have the
1BE front bar with the Nuespeed 28mm adjustable rear. Nice and balanced, can
slide the car front or back with the throttle.
Yeah i guess i should have mentioned my current setup is H&R OE springs, Bilstein sports shocks (Front Height adjust, set half inch lower), and Neuspeed 28mm adjustable rear sway bar (set on tightest) bought off group buy http://www.clubb5.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=75892
If factory front sway bar is already 27 or 29mm is the upgrade to a solid bar really gonna make that much of a difference?
Adding a solid front bar will remove the neutral / oversteer characteristics you have now. You won't have as much understeer as the stock set up but the quick reflexes will be toned down some from where you are currently. Save your money.
Is this the majority opinion? I shouldnt buy the front? I was thinking if i dont buy the front i might change my springs to Eibach prokit. Think that is a better option?
Get a front and rear sway bar! and some stiff springs and shocks!!!

Then you will have some serious suspension!

Yes get the front and rear sway bar!

Ive already got the shocks adjustable bilstien sports and rear 28mm sway bar. I have HR OE springs. Does anyone know which springs have a stiffer rating the HR sports or Eibach Prokit?

I do! They springs that have a stiffer rating then HR or Eibach are Vogtland springs! I was talking to a guy yesterday inquiring about them, and he siad they are even stiffer then my Neuspeed which I like but am taking out due to not lowering the car enough all they way around! I hate how there is more gap in the back then in the front! :puke:

So yeah there you go! Here is the addy for those Vogtland springs!

Yea, but does he know how stiff all those other springs are, or is he talking out of his ass? None of those companies publish their rates so unless he bought a set of each to measure..

I believe your refuring to my post! I dont know if he has tested them! He just said they are a little stiffer then the Neuspeed!

I guess when I put them on I will be the first to let all you guys know!

those springs sound great but they lower the car to much for my area. 2.2" is way to low for me. The H&R sports lower it to much for me, I had them and they were to low, so i switched to H&R OE and they arent low enough so I was thinking the Eibach would be in the middle. Am i right?

i was VERY skeptical due to the overwelming posts by fellow CB5ers and held off on a front and craved the rear....but i got the oportunity to use a front w/o a rear and must say...in comparison from no sways to only a front (which in this case isn't to valid since he has a rear already) i REALLY enjoyed the front bar and liked how it flattened out my front end. I used it in conjunction with a C-bar and Sparco Strut tower bar...so my front is pretty stiff and driving it is a pure joy. My only limitation now are my front tires that scream in a turn and freak me out every time....once i get my 18s back up front i'll be likley to enjoy the setup even more.

So with that... i give a BIG  for a front Sway bar!

Again just my $0.02 and opinion
Rich,
That pic of the white passat does look good. Maybe the Vogtland springs would be another to consider. How well is the ride with those springs?

If those Vogtland springs are a little stiffer then mine, then you should be fine, I am only running springs right now with stock shocks! When I get my Vogtland springs and koni shocks it will stiffer but still should be comfortable!!

I will let you know!
