Well, they promised us "change" and they sure delivered.
Robert C. Byrd (D-WV) is now third in line to become the President of the United States.
I guess David Duke picked the wrong party.

Your point being?

Byrd has been very open about his past and has disavowed it pretty thoroughly. I don't recall Duke being so open.

It's not a big deal because it has been known since Byrd first joined the Senate a billion years ago.

Now if you can make a connection between Byrd and the National Alliance which happens to be located in West Virginia, you could make some news.

At age 24 he was a Klansman. He's what, 89 now? I believe that is called ancient history.

And really, it's not new news. And the odds of three people dying so that he could become President...it's just silly.

Yep, and he has given several silly excuses for it, including "I was opposed to communism". Maybe if he had just came out and said "I was a racist bigot" I would agree with you.

BTW...when was the last time the N-word was used in congress and that person wasn't asked to step down? Hmmmm....that would be Byrd in 2004! Never mind that he filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Do I think he has "come correct" in the recent years? Probably mostly. He still tries to sugar coat his past. Is he still the biggest P-I-G in the Senate with pork barrel spending. Damn straight!

Nice thing about having a long career, you have plenty of time to make mistakes, change your mind, and still atone. What you do or say now is more important than what you thought way back when. But folks can always dig some dirt up on anyone if they want.

Sure, maybe normal people. He's a politician now though, so he must be telling the truth when he says he's changed. I don't think he would do it just for his political career. :rolleye:

Sorry, I'm embarrassed by our Senators and Congress(wo)man from CA and they're just hypocrites. How West Virginia can keep this guy in office is amazing. I mean, it's not just his views (uh...sorry, past views), it's the fact he was actually in the f&$kin' KKK. Arguably the most anti-american group ever on US soil. I have a feeling if he was a Republican a lot of people's opinions would be different in regards to this guy.

Bryds sort of like the dem's Strom Thurmond.
No one asked him to step down either.
And Strom actively campaigned for segrigation while a politician and left the Democratic party over the (minor) liberalization of racial policy by Truman (notibly integration of the military).
