So I decided to experiment with a FMIC and the results were good. Then I just couldn't leave well enough alone  and had to make it better

All of the testing was done with a VAGCOM and ambient temps around 50 degrees F so I expect the results to be "different" when it gets warmer. Hopefully better :nervous: This is what I came up with.

Stealth!!!

VAGCOM data:

Before:

Engine Ignition Intake Air
Speed Timing Temperature
/min °BTDC °C
3200 12.8 21
3400 15.8 19.5
3640 19.5 19.5
3840 19.5 19.5
4040 19.5 19.5
4280 20.3 19.5
4440 20.3 19.5
4720 17.3 19.5
4880 19.5 19.5
5080 17.3 21
5280 17.3 21
5440 17.3 22.5
5640 18 22.5
5800 17.3 24
5960 17.3 24

After:

Engine Ignition Intake Air Intake Air
Speed Timing Temperature Temperature
Marker /min °BTDC °C °C
3240 18.8 15 13.5
3520 19.5 12 12
3880 19.5 12 12
4200 20.3 12 12
4520 18.8 12 12
4840 19.5 12 12
5120 18.8 13.5 13.5
5360 18 13.5 15
5600 16.5 15 15
5840 17.3 16.5 16.5

On the after log I remembered the log the temp before the intercooler too. The higher temp is measured at the MAF and the lower number is at the intake manifold. Sorry I didn't think to do this on the before log

I have also painted the bolts on the bottom of the bumper black since the picture.
I went with foam instead of metal because I KNOW that I will be hitting cones at 70+ MPH and I needed something flexible that wouldn't tear up the bumper or the FMIC.

Great results, looks like a 7.5 degree drop all the way. My next mod in the near future! And I like your stealth approach, looks much better than mine, I wasn't able to fit the lower grill b/c of the IC piping sticking out too much. OTOH I was able to fit the oilcooler between the FMIC and radiator.

I forgot to mention that the bottom is sealed using foam tape from the Homie Despot and that's why the bolts are going through the bottom of the bumper cover. The air has no choice but to go through the FMIC. My coolant temps actually dropped too.

I'd love to get some specs on the dimensions as well. Also, would you happen to have any pics of your plumbing routes and what you used for plumbing?

I really like the stealth look that the foam has created. It looks great!!
