Hey, i know it's not Directly related to Volkswagen or anything but i know that This Radar detector kicks ass and most everyone likes them... BUT they are so damn expensive  I was thinking that if enough people might like to get together to buy this thing we might be able to get a price drop. I'll give it some time and see how many people are interested then i'll contact Valentine. If you want any information on the Radar detector go to it's homepage at www.valentine1.com I'm a firm believer in this detector b/c my friend has one in his 20th gti and it has saved our ass a bunch of times. Just a few special options to mention about this thing are it's Directional Arrows and the fact that it never goes out of date b/c of the upgrades Valentine puts out for it. ANYWAYS i'll check back in a few days on this to see if anyone is interested.

You should shoot them an email and ask them if they are even willing to do a GB and how many people it would take. I have seen a bunch of other car clubs that have tried to organize a V1 GB, but Valentine turned them all down.

Escort is better
I'll have to disagree... does escort tell you when there is a speed trap ahead AND behind you? didn't think so

Actualy, my SOLO S2 does ahead and behind... it just doesnt tell you which one is which. I have NO idea which is better, I just got the SOLO S2 because it was wireless and thats what I needed, but, does it really matter if you can tell if its behind you or in front of you? eather way you still need/have to slow down. If you get a good price on the V1, I might be in to get one (as a gift for my speed demond Sister).

I'd be interested in a Valentine group buy, but it'll have to be quick, as I was planning on ordering one before 4/20 for my road trip.

Actually You want to know when you can speed up, so If you pass a speed trap, you want to know if there is a second one in front of you. It happened a few times to me. I  my V1.

if you can get valentine to aggree..im definately in....i have never seen a club or a group get any sort of discount for them...they want to keep their prices..if they start doing this for one group they are going ot have to do it with other thus bringing down the value of their unit....

i have to agree that the escrot is a great unit...the 8500 at least...the 8500 and the v1 are pretty equal to performace...at least when i put them side by side on my car. the escort actualy picked up a lil better when tuned right....but the escort doesnt have the errors...

neither does the V1...
ESCORT is a far more superior RD, sorry to say...
do a search on Geegle and compare the V1 vs the Passport...it's in the facts...

I've been wanting to get a new one and give my wife the old one. However, I think you'll have a tough time getting a GB from them. I went their offices in person to see if I could get a refurbished one - denied. That's not to say they weren't super-nice at the same time. I ended buying a new one from them and they were nice enough to give me pointers on mounting, etc.

EDIT: If you do speak to them, do NOT mention breaking traffic laws or they will get fussy with you.

They have a premium product, and I doubt you'll get them to budge at all on price. They sell direct, have no dealers, and it's a business model that has worked very well for them for nearly 20 years.

As far as comparing the V1 to other detectors, the independant test I have seen rate the V1 on top, and have done so for years.

Any radar detector is better than none, but I have yet to see a independant test that has rated any other model as well as the V1.

I just bought a pair of them from Valentine One, and this is one of the purchases where you don't regret paying a high price for a premium product. They are $399 each from Valentine One and recent models sell for that much (or nearly so) on eBay, so their proces aren't out of line, IMO.

there is a site about Radar Roy, who in fact tests all that is radar and laser detectors.. the following link states the clear winner(s) in every category, but please do read all the (prior) pages regarding the tests...
FOLLOW THIS LINK:
http://radar-detectors.com/support/speedlabs/radar-review.asp

The Valentine is DEFINETLY one of the top detectors in the world, However, it should be noted that the Escort 8500 and the Beltronics 985 are the only detectors that are listed in all of the tested categories.

Have to say if you are able to arrange some type of deal with them I would definitely jump on this. But as otheres have mentioned people have attempted this before with no such luck.
