Engine Oil Filter comes in synthetic and regular version now?

So I bought 5w40 synth oil and asked to see if they had a filter for my car.

The guy tried to upsell me a $18 mobil 1oil filter which is apparently synthetic. He said that is what should be used with synthetic filter.

I never heard of it. Anyone recommend the more expensive filter over the regular filter.

As far as I know, there is nothing synthetic about the filter itself. It is simply a higher quality filter than a Fram. The oil filters designed for synthetic oils are supposed to have a better filter in them since the oil will not be changed as often as Dino oil.

stick to a good German filter and you will be fine.

Sorry for the ignorance. What brand would you recommend that would be european spec?

I've always used Mann ,oc every 7500.
2X on the Mann filters. Every 5000 miles for me.

You can use any filter with any oil. For the 1.8T I'm more interested in oil capacity than I am ultimate filtration.

The Mobil 1 oil filter's media is made from a blend of celulose and synthetic material. A couple of filter's that use 100% synthetic media are Royal Purple and Amsoil EaO.

best engine filter to use imo. cheap and durable.
I am assuming this is the one you guys are talking about

Also, do you change the oil filter with every oil change or every other?
Use the google search feature on this website and search for "big kahuna". That will give you the info you need if you want a filter with the largest capacity as turbojim was referring to. I used the purolator brand. Its the size of a 1/2 gallon milk container (well maybe a little smaller). I change the filter with every oil change (5k miles). I suppose certain filters may be effective for longer periods. Go to Bobistheoilguy.com for comparisons of filters etc. It is pretty much the best internet source for your type of question
Already ended up ordering 3 mann filters from the link above. But will get the puroltor *big kahuna* ones next time. Thanks
