I was wondering what is the best way of cleanning the engine bay? I have seen various spray products sold at the autoparts stores. Some require you to cover all electrical connections others (like Black Magic) are "safe" an do not require covering parts. They all require a small amount of water to wash it off. However, with so many cables and electronic equiqment in the 1.8T I wonder if any are "safe". I live in Florida, and the engine bay is full of grease and sand stuck everywhere. Any advice is appreaciated. Thanks

In my 15 years of detailing cars I never used any wash away type cleaning products.
Get in there and use degreasers or WD-40 and start wiping away.
If a dry brittle hose gets rehydrated with a good amount of water it will crack and potentialy cause a CEL (this goes for any component under the hood).
If you take your time and remove parts and wipe, brush and carefully spray away with compressed air you will get great results.
Taking a short cut like spray and wash may cause more problems.
