Got the Engine Check Light with the "Emissions Workshop" message on my console.

It's been on for a few weeks now as I'm hesitating going to the dealer to have myself get ripped off.

I went to a local shop and got the codes out.

It came out as follows:
Code 17536 Long Term fuel trim mult., Bank 1 System
too lean

Anyone out there have suggestions or run into the same problem?

I did some google searching and found that people have been run around by their dealers, replacing O2 sensors and the like, only to have the light come on again.

I also found one guy who said it might be do to damaging your spark plug when you try to start the engine when it's already on.

I'll probably replace my plugs, as a first step, and then cross my fingers.

And btw - I'm driving a 2000 Passat B5 with just under 60k miles.

Is it really covered by the warranty, because the dealership i went to said they wouldn't cover it so I ordered from Impex...man I hate the dealership!! They wouldn't cover my O2 sensor either.

MAF was extended to a 7yr/70k warranty by VW. Call VW customer service and discuss with them. They may need to contact the dealer and let them know that it is covered.

Got the MAF replaced yesterday at the dealer - all covered under warranty.

My K&N drop-in air filter was clogged up too. Had them just put in a stock one while they were in there ($45).

No more engine check light. My stress level just dropped 10 points. Back to loving my car.

Thanks guys.
