2007 2.0t. Nothing was wrong this morning. We installed an amp/subwoofer. I tied into the factory head unit with a line out converter from walmart. Nothing special, just a standard Scosche unit with a bass remote. Stereo is working great, but now there are two lights on the dash that weren't there before. The ESP light and the Steering Assist light. The ESP button by the shifter is lit up "off". The car hasn't been moved at all, so not likely these systems have failed randomly, just wondering if a wire behind the stereo may have been jarred loose or something. Or if maybe having the battery disconnected could have caused the issues. Or maybe the head unit has some control over computer function- I had a 2002 Chevy Impala that was like that.

May be worth noting, the car has a new battery from about 2 weeks ago. Also, it has a dealer code box that is an ignition interruptor. It quit working when the last battery went dead and never came back on when we installed the new battery. Tonight after reconnecting the battery, it came back on as well and the car wouldn't start. I just bypassed it and the car starts fine, but I don't know if it may be related.

I know plenty of people are probably going to suggest I take it to the dealer, but I have zero intention of doing that. I've been robbed by too many crooked shops, so I do all my own work, for about the last 10 years and intend to continue doing that. If I need special tools to work on a VW, I'll buy them.

Yeah we just decided to take it for a test drive and they turned off before we left the driveway. So false alarm I guess. Thanks for the responses either way and the info about the scanning equipment. On another unrelated note, while searching the web about the ESP button, I also looked into the auto hold button and found out what that is. Neat feature but ours doesn't seem to be working. I just tried it on a hill. So I'm gonna look into what it will take to get that going again

I've got more to learn about it, but it does work. Just requires the seatbelt be on. That is another thing on my to do list - bypass or trick the seatbelt thing. I will not wear a seatbelt and the dinging drives me nuts.
