Dying the roof upholstery

1570 Views 16 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  new2vw
Hey guys, Im having ideas about the interior of my car. I have the black leather interior with tan roof/plastic. I want to somehow dye my tan upholstery black. I will leave all the tan plastic pieces as they are for accenting. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Having a black headliner will probably make the interior look a lot smaller and make u feel claustrophobic when driving it
haha, funny thing b/c my friend said that too... but i sat in a passat that did that and i liked it a lot, made me feel like i was more one with the car
I think that it may be easier to get a new black headliner (not sure if they make one) instead of dying the current one. Maybe a shop that specializes in interiors might be able to do that.
yea, they do but it's 250 bucks from a friend, and it has to be reglued and i'd rather do it myself for a lot cheaper... plus i like to do all the work myself if i can to my car.
you won't be able to dye the headliner without removing it, and then you'd be more than halfway there to putting in a new headliner anyways, so I'd go with the getting a new headliner route. it'll be well worth the 250 which sounds really cheap because i've seen them done for way more.

How is your car tan/black? mine is grey/black, and have never seen black leather with a tan counter color.... if it is, i think that would look really classy, and if anything, i'd make the color tan a little more brown, which would be even more classy.

All in all, with changing the plastics (prolly have to spray b/c they don't make black), and then messing with the headliners, the A pillers (they're clothed too) and the sunroof, plus any other tan pieces, this would be one hellova job. But if pulled off, I'd love to see an all black passat interior. That would like so awesome

I would want to leave the Tan plastic pieces tan... i want some accent, lol. I was thinking about coloring them the same as my woodtrim pieces, or vise/versa. If i do decide to get my friend to change it i'll have to wait till i go back to florida in august.. but who knows. Does anybody know how much it is to get a new headliner? and how to install it/ remove an old one?
I want black alcantra for my headliner.
nice
I also would love to see a writeup on removing/installing the headliner.
I am sure I've seen it(alcantra) done in a Passat or A4.
